Baked
Dried
Hot
Almost sizzling.
The word of concrete
Tarmac
and stone
superheated
scorched by the sun.
Too hot
for bare feet
of human or dog.
Then
when it seems almost impossible
when it seems so long since last time
it finally rains.
Large fat droplets
patting with an almost sizzle of sound
and then
if you stop to notice
if your nose is switched on
or you lower your face to the floor
comes that unique scent
of wet rock and concrete
though actually bacteria
to spark the senses
as the parched land
can now sigh with relief.
